Michael Markowitz
Figure Drawings
April 7th - May 2nd, 2010
reception: Sunday, April 11th, 2-6 pm
San Francisco artist and teacher Michael Markowitz is immersed in the world of the figure. For nearly 20 years he's run one of the largest private figure drawing studios in the Bay Area, 23rd Street Studio, (Visit www.23rdStreetStudio.com for more information about the classes) in the Noe Valley. With access to hand-picked models and lots of opportunities to draw each week, Michael is much more concerned with the process of making the pieces than he is with displaying his work--which makes a show of his work especially interesting. We've chosen a selection of his pieces from the past ten years, focusing on his more gestural work, as well as some of his more recent abstract figures, and a few unusual acrylic paintings. (FYI: Michael doesn't title his pieces; we've added descriptive titles here, just to ease communication.)
