Bill Cone
Light, Water & Granite:  Pastel Paintings & Studies from the Sierra
April 15th - May 10th, 2009
Opening reception:  Sunday, April 19th, 2-6 pm
Artist talk:  Wednesday, April 22nd, 7-8 pm

Bill Cone's striking landscapes are the result of 4 years of trips to the Ansel Adams Wilderness, in the eastern Sierra.  Starting in 2005, he invited a group of fellow artists to hike into the mountains, with a string of mules carrying their supplies.  He studied the light as it crossed the landscape, creating plein air views of both the Ediza and Garnet Lake basins.  After returning home, he continued the work in his East Bay studio:  "A strong sense memory, photography, and the studies and notes made in the field, allow ideas born in the high mountains of late summer to mature during the dreariest days of winter."  We hope you'll enjoy this very special show!  In addition to attending the reception, Bill will give a talk about the work on Wednesday, April 22nd.
